Find a Roman Catholic Church

In addition, don’t forget to get approval from the church’s priest. Having the priest’s acceptance is essential before moving forward with your wedding in Rome.

Contact the Local Priest of your Home Country

The next step is contacting the Priest of your home country and letting them know that you are planning to have a religious Italian wedding. You are required to share the following documents so the Priest can share an approval. The documents include-

• Baptism certificate – The baptism certificate must be issued within the last six months. It indicates both you and your partner have been baptized as Catholics. 
• First Communion
• Confirmation certificates.

• Pre Cana Classes

• Formal Letter & Prenuptial Enquiry Form
  Roman authorities require you to show that the local priest knows you and has allowed you to host a wedding in Rome. Through the formal letter, he has to confirm that both the bride and groom are active in the Catholic Church and that they can have a religious Italian wedding ceremony.
  
  Note- The formal letter must be on the letterhead paper of the Parish with details of the Roman church you have chosen, as well as the wedding date. It should specify that you have attended and fulfilled pre-cana class requirements along with the certificate. 
• Pre Nuptial Enquiry Form
  It is a questionnaire that includes specific information such as personal details and religious data. It should be filled out in your presence with the Priest. When it is written, the local bishop’s office should sign and stamp it with the Church seal. 
• Stato Libero Ecclesiastico Certification
  It certifies that neither of the couples has been previously married to the catholic rite. 
• No Impediments documents
  Nihil Obstat is one of the essential documents required by the Roman authorities. This letter states that the religious authorities have approved your religious Italian wedding. It should specify that you have no impediments to getting married in Rome and include the name of the Church and the wedding date. If everything is in order, the diocese will review your documents and grant permission for a wedding in Rome.
  
  Note- After collating all the documents, ensure they are thoroughly signed and stamped by the local Bishop’s office. The Archdiocese of your city issues the document. All the documents must be sent at least 2 to 6 months before the wedding date.

Additional Documents
